Keywords: Planning to Re optimize Content With this 7 Increasing number of Keywords? Here Are Do’s and Don’ts

Oma Alidu August 11, 2021 No Comments

Are you here because you intend to add more than eight to ten keywords in a single blog post?

Did you know that blog posts have the potential to rank for multiple search terms? With the right strategy in place, you can increase the blog’s organic traffic with multiple keywords. Most agencies offering digital marketing services do so. However, it is crucial to note that Keywords alone cannot help achieve top ranking. There are several other tactics for achieving better rankings.

Try these approaches to boost your SEO rankings:

Write high-quality content

There is no point in producing a bulk of poor quality, long-form content. Focus on super-quality even if it means less quantity. Content should have at least 1,900 words unless, of course, it is a micro topic.

The blog post should be well-researched with accurate information to win the reader’s trust.
Wait and watch for 30-60 days

Promote the content using social media and influencer marketing. Wait for 30 to 60 days after publishing the post. Then check the performance of your blog.

Determine the search terms getting ranked

Your posts should manage to get backlinks after a few days from publishing. Tools like Ahrefs and Google Search Console can help analyze search terms for which the content is getting ranked.

You can check the current Google Search ranking for your post. Open the Search Appearance tab in Google Search Console, and enter the URL for your blog post.

Get the list of keywords your post is optimized for, and check their performance. Also, take a look at other search terms that the content is getting ranked. If these are relevant for your business, you can consider noting them down.

It is advisable to wait for up to six months to let the post earn a position in SERPs. Focus on promoting the post. If it fails to show improvement, you can consider writing a new post on the topic.

Find additional keywords

Is your post getting some traction? If so, it is time for you to get that list of additional keywords from Google Search Console and start working.

Use keywords for which you’re ranking on page two for search results. It’s easier to improve their performance rather than unused ones that don’t have any presence.

Did you shortlist multiple keywords as a part of your initial SEO strategy? The time has come to add those related keywords to your post.

Avoid using keywords that do not have search volume. Also, don’t use them just because they are related.

Update the content with shortlisted additional keywords

After adding additional search terms to the post, the next step is to work on critical areas of content. Make changes in the image ALT tags, site headings, body copy, and more.

Wait for two months, and monitor how the post performs after the inclusion of additional keywords.

Avoid terms that are incredibly difficult to incorporate

Depending on the length of the content, you can ideally use 3-8 keywords (Primary + Secondary + Additional). At least one of these eight search terms can start showing results. Further, you can reoptimize content depending on the ranking situation.

Using more than eight keywords in short content can backfire. It is almost impossible to integrate eight to ten keywords in the content naturally. The post won’t remain worth reading. Search engines might consider such content as spammy.

Any SEO services expert can point out that related keywords automatically come up while writing around viral search terms.

However, forcefully adding keywords to the content hurts readability. It’s just like sticking out a sore thumb to Google crawlers and readers.

Use LSI or synonyms keywords

Synonyms can be of great help. To find the best ones, think about how customers could type the question differently while finding products.

For example, “how to bake a cookie” and “how to make a cookie” mean the same thing.

An example for LSI keywords

LSI search terms are semantically related keywords. You can use the same and try ranking for multiple keywords.

If you are writing content on Batman, you can consider using Bruce Wayne, Gotham City, James Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and others related to the main topic. But remember, this needs to be done naturally, without impacting the readability.

Both synonyms and LSI keywords can be used naturally throughout the blog post. You can use tools like UberSuggest, LSI Graph, and Ahrefs to find LSI.

Go through the list of search terms displayed by these tools. Select the ones that are best related to the primary topic for the blog.

Don’t stuff keywords in the content because you might end up with a penalty from Google. The search engine won’t rank even a single search term.

Give primary importance to the reader’s search intent, emphasis on answering their questions. If you focus on the reader’s interest, you will automatically give significance to readability.

Opt for long-tail keywords

Search volume for long-tail keywords is less as they are precise. These search terms consist of three or more words. They are easy to rank, and you may face meager competition.
You can expect targeted traffic if you manage to get ranked for them.

For example, searches for “best affordable accommodation in Surf side for travelers” may be limited. But it is super targeted.

If you plan to work on getting your existing post ranked for multiple search terms, you should indeed consider including long-tail keywords.
You can easily find related long-tail keywords using Google search. Enter your primary keyword, scroll to the page’s bottom and check the “Related Searches” section. Add these search terms to your list of keywords.

Conclusion:

The Search Engine Optimization process has completely changed during the last ten years. Link signals have a minimal role to play in page ranks. So, don’t stuff multiple search terms and hinder engagement on the page. Add and optimize only those keywords that match your main topic.

Are you an entrepreneur or blogger with limited knowledge of search engines? If so, choose a digital marketing company to work with, and let them optimize keywords for you.
